Chandra Graha Shanti

For the mind that will not settle. The Chandra beej mantra chanted to its count, for the peace the parampara places under the moon's care.

Chandra Graha Shanti

Overview

What is this anushthan?

Chandra Graha Shanti is the jap anushthan of Chandra Dev, the graha the parampara holds as the lord of the mann, the mind and the emotions. It is sought when the mind will not rest: through anxiety, emotional unease, disturbed sleep, or a heaviness the family cannot name, and when an astrologer reads a weak or afflicted Chandra in the chart. The moon governs the inner weather, and his shanti is a prayer for calm. The parampara links Chandra to the mother, to water, and to the tides of feeling, and his shanti is often sought for a mother's well-being, for emotional steadiness in the household, and for peace of mind through a difficult passage. His day is Monday, his offering white, and the anushthan carries that coolness in every upachara. At SiddhiStar the anushthan is performed by lineage-trained pandits in the shastriya krama, with your name and gotra carried into the sankalp. The count is chosen at booking, and where a devotee wishes to do more, the parampara allows the anushthan to be raised to a sawa lakh. The rite is sealed by the dashansh hawan, and where hawan cannot be arranged, additional jap is completed in its place.
SiddhiStar Note
The old astrologers watched the moon before they watched anything else, because they believed the mind sat in its keeping. When a person cannot sleep, cannot settle, carries a restlessness they cannot explain, the parampara does not reach first for a diagnosis. It reaches for the moon. Chandra Shanti is a household's way of asking for still water, the mind quieted the way a lake quiets when the wind drops.
