What is this anushthan?

Shani Shanti is the jap anushthan of Shani Dev, the graha the parampara calls the giver of karma and the strictest of teachers. It is sought most in the years his gaze falls hard on a family: the sade sati, the dhaiya, or a phase when effort meets delay after delay and the parampara reads Shani's hand in it. Shani is not appeased by shortcuts; he is honoured by discipline, and the anushthan is built on exactly that, his mantra chanted to its full count without haste. The parampara holds Shani to be just rather than cruel: he returns to a person the weight of their own karma, and his shanti is sought not to escape that reckoning but to carry it with grace, and to soften the delays and obstacles his affliction brings. His days are Saturdays, his metal iron, his oil the til ka tel, and the anushthan observes his discipline in every offering. At SiddhiStar the anushthan is performed by lineage-trained pandits in the shastriya krama, with your name and gotra carried into the sankalp. The count is chosen at booking, and where a devotee wishes to do more, the parampara allows the anushthan to be raised to a sawa lakh. The rite is sealed by the dashansh hawan, and where hawan cannot be arranged, additional jap is completed in its place.

Opening sequence

Pavitrikaran & Achaman

The pandit and the jaap sthal are purified with sacred water, and achaman is taken, before the anushthan begins.

Tilak, Bhasma & Mala Dharan

Tilak is applied, bhasma marked, and the jap mala worn, in the discipline the parampara asks of the one who chants.

Dik Rakshan

Yellow mustard is offered to the four directions to secure the jaap sthal.

This flow follows the jap-anushthan krama of the parampara. The rite is performed at your home, in the hybrid model, or live from Narwar Dham.
