What Is This Katha?
Shri Hanumant Katha is the telling of the life and leelas of Hanuman ji, the greatest of Ram bhaktas, whom the parampara holds as Sankat Mochan, the remover of troubles, and as the very form of devotion and strength joined in one. A Shri Hanumant Katha is that story brought into a home, narrated by a Vyas of the Narwar Dham parampara, so that a family and its gathering hear the story of Hanuman ji in the shastriya krama, in their own aangan.
The katha carries the story the tradition keeps of Hanuman ji: his birth to Anjani, his childhood leelas, his first meeting with Shri Ram in the forest and the love the Lord showed him, the friendship he made between Ram and Sugriva, the great leap to Lanka and the finding of Sita in the Sundarkand, the burning of Lanka, and the bringing of the Sanjeevani. Through it runs the teaching the parampara returns to, that Hanuman ji is the bridge between the jiva and Bhagwan, the one who joins a soul to the Lord, and that his devotion and his strength together are the model of a bhakt's life.
The Vyas is an acharya trained in the Narwar Dham parampara, and the katha is told in that lineage's discipline and bhaav. The duration is the family's to choose, from a single day's saar to the full fifteen-day telling, each a complete observance in its own right.
