What Is This Puja?
The Navagraha Homam extends the Navagraha Puja into the fire dimension - each planet's propitiation is made through Agni, who transforms the specific grains and herbs into their subtle form and carries them to the respective Graha. The fire ritual is considered significantly more potent than the puja for active, urgent planetary afflictions.
The nine fires are sometimes performed as a single unified fire, with specific oblation sequences for each planet. In the more elaborate version, nine separate fire pits are established - one for each Graha - and the purohits rotate between them. SiddhiStar's Premium version uses the nine-fire setup.
The specific grains, wood types, and herbs for each planet are precisely prescribed in the Navagraha Homa Paddhati - this is a tradition requiring specific knowledge, not improvisation.
