Kaal Sarp Dosh Puja

The Vedic remedy for the most discussed planetary dosha - when all seven planets fall between Rahu and Ketu in the birth chart, creating a serpentine enclosure with specific karmic implications.

Kaal Sarp Dosh Puja

Overview

What Is This Puja?

Kaal Sarp Dosh is the most widely discussed planetary dosha in contemporary Jyotisha - and the most misunderstood. The classical Jyotisha texts (Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, Phaladeepika) do not use this term. What they do describe is the condition of all planets falling within the Rahu-Ketu axis, and its effects on the native's life - particularly recurring patterns of reaching a certain level of success and falling back. The puja is not about eliminating Rahu and Ketu - they are cosmic forces and cannot be eliminated. The puja is about establishing a right relationship with them: acknowledging their karmic authority, propitiating the Naga devatas through whom they manifest, and requesting that their energy be directed toward the native's growth rather than obstruction. The puja is most effective when the Jyotishi has confirmed the dosha and its specific type (Anant, Kulik, Vasuki, etc. - there are 12 types of Kaal Sarp, each named after a Naga and having slightly different implications). SiddhiStar asks for the birth chart at booking to confirm the dosha type and adjust the ritual accordingly.
SiddhiStar Note
"I have performed Kaal Sarp Dosh puja for hundreds of clients, and I can say with honesty that the most important element is the sankalpa of intent - not the puja's length or elaborateness. A sincere, specific sankalp with a clear statement of what pattern the person wants to break is more effective than a lavish ceremony performed mechanically."

Ritual Flow

Understanding the sequence helps you participate meaningfully rather than merely observe.

1

Jyotisha Chart Review

The purohit or a consulting Jyotishi identifies the specific type of Kaal Sarp Dosh (Anant, Kulik, Vasuki, Shankhpal, Padma, Mahapadma, Takshak, Karkotak, Shankhanad, Patak, Vishadhar, or Sheshnag) before the puja.

2

Sankalpa - Specific Intent

The devotee declares the specific life area affected by the dosha and the intention for the puja. This is more detailed than a standard sankalpa.

3

Ganapati Puja

Ganesha invoked to remove the specific obstacle identified in the sankalpa.

4

Naga Pratishthan

A silver or copper Naga idol is installed and worshipped. The specific Naga associated with the dosha type receives particular emphasis.

5

Rahu-Ketu Puja

Rahu and Ketu each receive their specific offerings - blue flowers and black sesame for Rahu, multi-coloured flowers and horse gram for Ketu - with their respective beej mantras chanted 108 times each.

6

Kaal Sarp Naga Mantra Jaap (1008 times)

The specific mantra for the identified Naga deity is chanted 1008 times - this is the primary remedial act.

7

Naga Abhisheka

The Naga idol is bathed with milk, turmeric water, and Gangajal with specific Naga mantras.

8

Sar Dosh Nivaran Homa (Optional)
