Overview

What Is This Puja?

Saturn is the most misunderstood planet in Jyotisha. In the Vedic tradition, Shani is not simply a malefic - he is the planet of justice, karma, and discipline. His effects are perceived as harsh because he delivers exactly what you have earned through your actions - no more, no less. If your karma is clean, Shani is your greatest benefactor. The Shani Shanti Puja is not an attempt to bribe Saturn into ignoring your karma. It is an act of acknowledgment - recognising Saturn's authority, accepting the lessons he brings, and asking for the grace to navigate them with awareness rather than resistance. Devotees who approach the puja with this understanding report very different outcomes than those who approach it with fear. The Tailabhisheka (oil abhisheka) is the most distinctive feature of Shani puja - Shani is bathed in sesame oil (til ka tel), which is his specific abhisheka substance. This practice has a long tradition, and the specific reason is Shani's association with the earth element and with slowness - oil's heavy, slow quality reflects his nature.
SiddhiStar Note
"Of all the Navagraha, Shani is the one people fear most and understand least. I tell every client: Saturn doesn't make things difficult for you. He makes them proportional. What feels like Saturn's wrath is often simply the weight of accumulated karma becoming visible. The puja helps you meet that weight consciously."

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it true that Shani's Sade Sati is always bad?
Not at all - this is one of the most persistent misconceptions in popular Jyotisha. Sade Sati's effect depends entirely on the natal placement of Saturn and the quality of karmas the native has accumulated. For some, Sade Sati is their most productive period. The puja helps you work with the period, not against it.
