Kali Puja

The Mother in her most powerful form invoked at home - 11 paath of the Kali Stuti, the household placed under Maa Kali's fierce protection.

Kali Puja

Overview

What Is This Puja?

Kali Puja is the household deity rite dedicated to Maa Kali - Durga ji's most powerful form, invoked for protection, removal of fear, and the destruction of negative forces in the family's life. Most widely performed on Kali Chaudas (the night before Diwali) and on Amavasya tithis, the puja is the family's way of seeking Maa Kali's fierce maternal protection. The ritual moves through purification, sankalp, invocation of Ganesh ji, the central pujan of Kali ji with full vidhi-vidhan including 11 paath of the Kali Stuti, the offering of red flowers and red cloth, and the formal naivedya. At SiddhiStar, the puja is performed at home, or as an Online Puja with the pandit performing live from Narwar Dham while the family joins live from home. Your gotra and Kul Devata are recorded at booking. The base puja takes approximately two hours, with Hawan offered as an optional 30-minute add-on at the time of booking.
SiddhiStar Note
In the parampara, Maa Kali is not approached with fear but with the trust a child places in a fierce mother. She is the destroyer of what threatens the household, the negative thoughts, the obstructive forces, the unseen difficulties, and the form of the divine who steps forward when other forms hold back. Kali Puja in the North Indian household is performed with the same devotional intimacy as Durga Puja, with one difference: Kali ji is invoked specifically for the household's protection during difficult phases.
Primary Deities
Mahakali (primary) • Gauri (as the cosmic matrix from which Kali emerges) • Ganesha (first) • Varun Dev (via Kalash)

Commonly requested for

  • On Kali Chaudas (Narak Chaturdashi, the night before Diwali)
  • On Amavasya tithis as a recurring observance
  • During Chaitra and Sharad Navratri, on the day of Kalaratri (seventh Navratri form)
  • For families navigating significant fear, threat, or persistent negative experiences
  • After significant family crises as a protective shanti
  • When an astrologer has identified the need for a Kali-focused remedial puja

Ritual Flow

Understanding the sequence helps you participate meaningfully rather than merely observe.

Opening sequence

1

Pavitrikaran & Achaman

The family's primary member is purified with sacred water and three sips of achaman before the rite.

2

Tilak & Rakshabandhan

Tilak is applied and protective mauli tied on the right wrist of the yajman.

3

Dik Rakshan
