Shiva Puja

Mahadev honoured in the household seat - Shiva ji invoked with full vidhi-vidhan, bilva patra offered, the family placed under his grace.

Shiva Puja

Overview

What Is This Puja?

Shiva Puja is the household deity rite where Shiva ji - Mahadev, the auspicious one - is invoked in his seat at the family's pooja ka sthan. Distinct from Rudrabhishek (the formal Rudri-paath abhishek rite) and Mahamrityunjaya Jap (the dedicated jap rite), Shiva Puja is the standalone devotional pujan that honours Shiva ji with full Shodashopachara, the offering of bilva patra (his prescribed leaf), and the formal household worship. The puja is widely performed on Mondays as the recurring weekly observance, on Maha Shivaratri as the principal annual rite, and during the Sawan month. The ritual moves through purification, sankalp, invocation of Ganesh ji, the central pujan of Shiva ji with full vidhi-vidhan, the simultaneous honouring of Parvati ji and Nandi, and the offering of bilva-bhang-dhatura along with the prescribed naivedya. At SiddhiStar, the puja is performed at home, or as an Online Puja with the pandit performing live from Narwar Dham while the family joins live from home. Your gotra and Kul Devata are recorded at booking. The base puja takes approximately two hours, with Hawan offered as an optional 30-minute add-on at the time of booking.
SiddhiStar Note
In the parampara, Shiva ji is the deity addressed with the simplest gestures and the deepest trust. The Shiva Puja in the household tradition is not elaborate, it asks for a clean lota, a few bilva patra, a handful of cool water, and a still mind. The family invites Mahadev to take seat at home not as a ceremonial guest but as the household's own, the deity who is present in the daily evening lamp, in the bilva tree outside the house, in the temple bell that rings before bed.
Primary Deities
Shiva (Mahadeva, Shambhu) • Gauri/Parvati (invoked as inseparable from Shiva) • Ganesha (first, as Shiva's son) • Varun Dev (via Kalash)

Ritual Flow

Understanding the sequence helps you participate meaningfully rather than merely observe.

Opening sequence

1

Pavitrikaran & Achaman

The family's primary member is purified with sacred water and three sips of achaman before the rite.

2

Tilak & Rakshabandhan

Tilak (chandan-bhasma) is applied to the forehead and protective mauli tied on the right wrist of the yajman. For Shiva Puja, three-line bhasma tilak is preferred.

3

Dik Rakshan

Yellow mustard is offered to the four directions to secure the puja space.

Understanding the sequence helps you participate meaningfully rather than merely observe. Per the Narwar parampara, this puja is Shodashopachara-centred rather than paath-centred; for paath-based Shiva rites, see Rudrabhishek and Mahamrityunjaya Jap as separate SKUs.

SiddhiStar Samagri Policy
For Online Puja, the SiddhiStar Samagri Kit (Block 1) is included by default, as the pandit performs from Narwar Dham with the kit ready. For Ghar Par Puja, the kit is offered as an optional add-on at booking, the family may receive the kit at home before the puja date or arrange the Block 1 items themselves.

Important Note

Per the Narwar parampara, this standalone Shiva Pujan does not include a structured paath recitation (such as 11 paath of the Rudri); the central rite is the full Shodashopachara, followed by Bilva Patra Arpan and 108 Om Namah Shivaya jap. For the formal Rudri-paath abhishek, the separate Rudrabhishek puja is the appropriate rite. For the dedicated mantra-recitation rite, Mahamrityunjaya Jap is the separate SKU.
