Where Does This Puja Come From?
Ritual Flow
Understanding the sequence helps you participate meaningfully rather than merely observe.
Pre-Puja Assessment
The purohit walks the premises before beginning. The Vastu Mandala of the existing structure is mapped against the 45-field grid. The specific dosha zones identified. This assessment, not the ritual itself, determines the ceremony's direction.
Sankalpa
Householder declares intent with full gotra, nakshatra, and an explicit statement of the dosha being addressed: I perform this puja for the Nivaran of [specific dosha] in the [specific zone] of this griha. Generic Sankalpa is insufficient for Dosh Nivaran.
Ganapati Puja and Complete Shuddhi
Ganesha worshipped with Shodashopachara. Complete Shuddhi of the structure with Gangajal, darbha grass, and mantras - all five zones purified (entrance, puja room, kitchen, bedrooms, bathroom area) before targeted remedy begins.
Vastu Mandala Puja
The Vastu Mandala drawn at the centre of the home. Offerings made to all 45 Vastu devatas. Specific additional offerings made to the devatas of the identified dosha zones.
Zone-Specific Dosha Mantra Japa
At the exact location of the dosha - the affected wall, corner, or room - targeted mantra japa is performed for the presiding devata of that zone. The number of repetitions is determined by the severity of the dosha as assessed.
Corrective Element Sthapana
Depending on the dosha type, a corrective element is installed: a copper Vastu pyramid at the affected zone, a Vastu yantra at the Brahmasthana, specific plants (Tulsi for NE zone) or metal strips at zone boundaries. The element is consecrated through mantra before placement.
Homa - Dosha Karma Shuddhi
Homa performed at the Brahmasthana or as close to it as possible. Specific Ahutis for each dosha zone identified. The Vastu Purusha Suktam recited throughout. Homa ash applied to the thresholds and affected zone walls.
Uttarpuja and Ongoing Prescription
Deities thanked. The purohit provides the householder with a written prescription for ongoing maintenance: which devata to worship on which day, which mantras to recite at the threshold, any structural rearrangements recommended.
